Crash courses and Intensive Driving Lessons

Many people naturally assume that taking an intensive course of say one week is the quickest way of passing your test - it isn’t & in fact it can take longer than by taking our 6 week course.

The reason is that you clearly want a Driving Test at the end of your course and as we cannot book that test until you have passed your theory test we cannot book the course until you have passed that test.

So we have to wait for a couple of weeks for you study & apply for the test. Only when you have your pass certificate can we book the test - which is usually a 6-8 week lead time.
So it usually takes a minimum of 8-10 weeks.

However if it is speed that you are interested in!

  • Apply for your theory test today
  • Start taking any and all available lessons from tomorrow
  • Given that it will take 2 weeks to study & pass your theory test you can probably complete enough lessons to get you to test standard by the time you pass your theory.
  • Apply for a “Short notice” test which will often come through within a day or so.

It is possible to pass within 3 weeks with this approach

If we still like the idea of a course then read on - as we have intensive courses and structured courses

Intensive/ Crash courses - normally 5 hours per day & can be run over 2, 3, or 5 days.

The 5 day course is one week long start Monday finish Friday & we book your test for the following week, 2 & 3 day courses are similar where we try to book your test on the day following the course.

The drawbacks of this type of course are:

  • if you feel ill or unwell we cannot rearrange the course because the instructor has committed that time to you & we wont be able to arrange other work at such short notice.
  • hour for hour you will probably not learn as much as you would in a series of normal lessons. (see Advice)
  • during any series of lessons you will find that on some lessons you progress a lot & on others less so. This is natural - but just think how you would feel on day before your test if you suddenly started making a mess of things. You have no time left to recover your confidence.

Our preference is for the less pressured courses:

6 week course - A course of 2/3 lessons per week over a period of 6-9 weeks (depending on the test lead times in your area). We book your theory test for you at the start so that you are studying alongside taking driving lessons. This course is designed as a beginner course and is about the minimum that anyone with no experience will need.
The course cost includes:

  • Your theory test cost
  • Your Practical Driving Test cost for a weekday test
  • 16 one hour lessons - booked daytime or evening
  • Your pre-test lesson & use of our car on test

The advantage of this course is that if you don’t make the progress needed then we have the time for other lessons before your test.

10, 15, 20 or 25 hour courses - lesson packages that are usually taken 2 hours p.day leading up to a test. The choice of which package is correct for you is taken with the instructor after an assessment lesson. This course includes the hours as selected plus the cost of us booking your driving test and a pre-test lesson and use of our car on test.
